(Re: Donald Trump should apologize to Canada for 51st state comments, Louisiana Lt.-Gov. says…) It was all fun and games, as President Trump was trying to poke the Canadian bear during Justin Trudeau’s reign of dysfunctionality in Canada. During that time, I was quite surprised by Canadians’ lack of humour on the subject. Donald Trump seems to own the patent on getting entities angry at him across North America and the globe.

Put pressure on Israel
The recognition of the Palestinian state is a good first step for Canada, but more pressure needs to be put on Israel to stop bombing Gaza and pushing Palestinians out of the West Bank. It is downright impossible to de-power Hamas and establish democracy in Palestine while it is under Israel’s thumb. How can you convince people to line up at polling booths as their homes in the West Bank are being stolen and their children in Gaza are being bombed by Israel?

Pipe dream?
Rick Bell raises many good points (‘Will Mark Carney shaft Alberta again?’ Calgary Sun, Oct. 2, 2025) and I believe Lorne Gunter (‘UCP pipeline doomed to be blocked by feds, B.C.’ calgarysun.com) has it right with regard to the pipeline being doomed to be blocked. We are going to spend $14 million in taxpayer money, most likely flush down the toilet, because the private sector (Enbridge) incurred $373 million in lost costs for the scrapped Northern Gateway project and no private sector company will invest in Canadian energy while the Liberal cap on oil and gas emissions, tanker ban and the no-more-pipelines law are in place. B.C. Premier David Eby is a staunch supporter of the tanker ban and there are sure to be several indigenous interveners not to mention Ottawa saying NO as they have several times in the past. Even if this does, by some miracle, get approved, what’s next? A single pipeline is not a major victory. It is nothing more than a good start. We can’t offend Quebec and get pipelines to the Atlantic coast so we will try to go to Churchill Manitoba with 90 days of open water using icebreakers for the remainder of the year to get ships in/out. Energy-averse Canada will continue to make these endeavours as complicated and expensive as possible, with all of the above laws in place unless anointed by the Liberal cabinet. How much more taxpayer money will be required to get our highly in-demand resources to market when it should cost taxpayers nothing?

(Time for Carney to start removing roadblocks, like he promised.)
