Back to work! Read More

Back to work! My Dad was a teacher in Ontario for over 30 years, and was on the negotiating committee for the OSSTF in the ’60s and early ’70s. Teachers back then could only imagine the amount of money teachers are now getting. I know what he would say to this spoiled bunch of brats.

Get back to work, quit being so selfish and educate our children instead of making outlandish demands. Premier Smith, stick to your guns!

(Sounds like she’s drawing a line in the sand)

Time for a change

There is only one emergency at Calgary City Hall. It has nothing to do with climate. It is the lack-of-common-sense, virtue-signalling mayor and certain councillors. The emergency is we replace them immediately. Gondek is clearly incompetent. Luckily, goofy Gian-Carlo Carra and (Courtney) Walcott are avoiding electoral embarrassment. (Jasmine) Mian and (Kourtney) Penner are over their heads. Move on from these people. Please.

ROGER MILLIONS

(Calgarians will soon have their say)

Jails ailing?

I note with concern that almost 20% of the Calgary police force is on mental or physical sick leave. I expect that Canada’s current ‘catch-and-release’ system which recycles criminals back into the streets is part of the mental stress. One underreported issue is, what is our jail capacity? Can we incarcerate the repeat criminals – or no room?

JOHN H. MACLEAN

(Catch-and-release certainly isn’t helping matters)

Drop the tariffs

Regarding the tariffs on Chinese EVs: Everyone except Donald Trump knows that tariffs are taxes on your own citizens. If we want to be “elbows up,” we should drop the tariffs on EVs, make them affordable for Canadians, and at the same time reduce our dependence on oil from the U.S.

S. CHRIS CRAWLEY

(So we need build some pipelines here)

Playing with fire

With Russian President Vladimir Putin’s continuing war with Ukraine, encroaching airspace in Poland, threatening NATO countries in Europe, along with his recent meetings with the leaders of China, India and North Korea, possibly leading to greater conflict, how does the NHL and minor hockey leagues allow Russian-born players to continue playing hockey in North America?

WAYNE SMITH

(Nothing is going to change on that score. Besides, is it fair to punish the players?)
