How is it that one person in Canada, Prime Minister Carney, can speak for all Canadians and state Canada will recognize Palestine as a state? Why has Palestine refused a state recognition five times since 1947? I personally do not support Canada recognizing Palestine as a state. Hamas is still holding up to 48 Israelis hostages in tunnels since their capture in October 2023. Hamas was voted in by Palestinians in 2006. Hamas is a terrorist organization and with Canada now recognizing them as a state, it looks like Carney and the Liberal government are recognizing a terrorist organization. I have empathy for Anthony Housefather.

The federal government’s request to the Supreme Court to find a loophole to stop Alberta from using the notwithstanding clause will fail because nothing short of a new Canadian Constitution will change that. Alberta doesn’t like Canada anymore for your continuous attacks on Alberta energy, so until we fully manage to navigate our complete disconnection with Canada for true Alberta independence, we joyfully are going to use the notwithstanding clause to death as a sovereign Alberta will strike down every stupid Liberal law. So get used to it!

(Think that may be a little optimistic)

Provincial overreach

The Alberta government has stated that they are going to limit municipal property tax increases. While this may sound good on the surface but this is an infringement on the citizens of municipalities’ right to decide through the election process who should make that decision. If citizens want to have lower property tax increases, they should pay close attention to the platforms of those seeking a seat in their government. We, the citizens, have a clear opportunity to express that very idea through our democratic right to vote this October. If you want lower property taxes, don’t vote by name recognition but by the platform the candidate is presenting. Become more aware because you get what you vote for.

(Now, if only voters would vote for lower taxes.)

CFL fail

When does the contract of CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnston expire?
It can’t be soon enough. The goalpost changes, etc. will only hurt the best-played football game in North America. Johnston should be focused on getting fans into the stands, working on that elusive 10th CFL team, better health-care post-career for the players, and getting the league’s players names and faces better known to all football fans. Not to mention the sub-par broadcasts of the games on TSN.

(These fundamental changes don’t seem to be going over well with CFL fans. Let’s see how it goes when they are implemented next season)
