Linfield kick off Gibson Cup celebrations by beating Glentoran

LINFIELD boss David Healy admitted he was “proud and emotional” after his side lifted the Gibson Cup following a 2-1 win over Glentoran at Windsor Park.

“The manner in which we’ve won it is incredible,” Healy said of his team, who had the Sports Direct Premiership title wrapped up before the split.

“I feel proud and I feel emotional.”

Callum Morrison opened the scoring, Jordan Jenkins equalised and Kirk Millar grabbed the winner.

Skipper Jamie Mulgrew said: “I’m incredibly proud. I’m really proud of the team and the effort they have put in, and the emphatic way we won the league. At the start of the season we never could have envisaged it would have ended this way. I’m proud of my record of 11 league titles but I’m just really proud and privileged to lead this team.

“It’s trophy day and it’s important that you win to enjoy the moment even more. It was important we put on a show and won. We want to get as many points as we can to build a platform for next season.”
