A TECHNICAL issue with an overhead line is causing huge delays to rail services this evening.
The track between Lansdowne Road in Dublin and Bray in Co Wicklow has been hit with the issue, with services between these two stations suspended while staff deal with the problem.
Irish Rail said commuter services are still operating but with delays due to the issue affecting the DART network.
DARTs are operating between Malahide/Howth and Lansdowne Road.
However, the 16:28 Connolly/Rosslare service has been cancelled, while the 18:28 Connolly/Wexford service will operate as a bus transfer.
Irish Rail posted on X: “Services are currently suspended between Lansdowne Rd/Bray due to an overhead line being down.
“Services through the city centre will experience delays as a result.
“Dublin Bus is honouring rail tickets in the affected area.”
They responded to a customer asking if there was any indication how long the outage would be by saying: “No, the staff need to assess the situation before any timeframe can be given.”
Staff arrived on-site around 6.45pm and are assessing the situation.
Irish Rail’s trackworker safety manual states that the overhead line equipment (OHLE) that provides power to the DART is energised to 1,500 volts of direct current and is “extremely dangerous”.
It adds that you should “always consider the the OHLE to be ‘live’ and coming into contact with it may result in death or serious injury”.
