MALIBU, Calif. (KABC) — Tucked off Pacific Coast Highway a few miles from the Malibu pier, Malibu Seafood has been an anchor for fresh fish, a beautiful ocean view and a good time.
“We’ve been in Malibu well over 50 years. We’ve been through the fires, the floods and everything that they can throw at the city of Malibu,” said owner Mark Ridgway.
Their extensive menu includes grilled shrimp skewers, fried shrimp, clam chowder bread bowls, but their most popular menu item, fish and chips.
They also offer fish tacos and lobster rolls.
It was founded as a fish market by two fishermen in 1972. A few years later, it expanded into the beloved restaurant it is today.
“We’re in it for the long haul and we’ve been here 50 plus years and we hope to be here for another 50,” said Alette Ridgway.
Usually bustling with business, the restaurant has been quiet ever since flames scorched the nearby community.
They survived the Palisades Fire, but surviving the partial closure of PCH has proven to be difficult, with a 75% to 90% reduction in business.
“It’s devastating having the coast highway closed to all of the businesses in Malibu. Everybody is suffering and struggling,” said Ridgway.
He said they’re leaning on the community to keep all impacted restaurants, including Malibu Seafood, afloat.
“This is a great community. It’s always been great for us. They’re very supportive,” said Ridgway. “People come in on a daily basis or the phone rings off the hook, are you still there? How are you guys doing? Yes we’re here.”
They are open seven days a week.
