Man charged after driving snow removal vehicle into SickKids Hospital: police

A man has been charged after he allegedly stole a snow removal vehicle and crashed into the entrance of the emergency department at SickKids Hospital Monday afternoon.

Authorities say the vehicle was unattended when an unknown man entered the driver’s seat and allegedly drove it a short distance into the doors of the building.

The man was apprehended a short while later and was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Norman Gayvan Lane, 37, of no fixed address has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, property damage endangering life and mischief to property exceeding $5,000.

Footage from the scene appears to show a sidewalk tractor wedged between an automatic sliding door entrance.

Hospital officials say its emergency department remains open and it is operating as usual.

“Patients and families should feel comfortable coming in for care if needed,” officials wrote in a social media post.
