A man struck in the head while trying to calm a fight during an afterparty in Forest Lawn succumbed to his injuries, according to Calgary police.

The altercation was sparked at a restaurant in the 2800 block of 17th Avenue S.E. at around 6:20 a.m. on Monday. The fight initially began between two men and grew into a larger dispute involving several more people.

During the incident, one man, who was attempting to calm the situation, was hit in the head.

Approximately 40 minutes later, two friends of the victim took him to a residence in Marlborough, where he was later picked up by a family member.

Several hours later, around 3:30 p.m., the victim was found unresponsive and was later driven to hospital by Emergency Medical Services.

The victim died of his injuries on Thursday. An autopsy was conducted by The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the victim has been identified as Adonai Tekle, who was 24.

Investigators have taken one man into custody and charges are pending.
