The Danish legend revealed that they enjoyed a ‘lovely’ conversation with Roy Keane during a recent meeting in London

But the ‘Great Dane’ and the former Ireland skipper endured a fractured relationship during their time playing together at Old Trafford.

The duo infamously came to blows on a pre-season tour of Asia in 1998, with Keane recalling the moment when launching his book at the RDS in 2014.

Both publicly admitted that they barely spoke during their huge trophy haul with Man Utd.

While the pair have had their differences, both have always praised one another’s ability on the pitch.

Bu that may be a thing of the past now as the Danish legend revealed that they enjoyed a ‘lovely’ conversation during a recent surprise meeting over breakfast in London.

The legendary net-minder was speaking in an interview with the Irish Examiner.

It comes ahead of the release of a new documentary about his storied life and career, simply called ‘Schmeichel.’

Some of the archive footage shows how the now 61-year-old goalkeeping great always thought he was “superior” on a football field.

And he reckons that former team-mate Keane and himself clashed due to their driven attitudes.

But their relationship seems to have moved on as he revealed how Keane shook his hand before inviting Schmeichel to join him for breakfast after accidentally bumping into one another in London.

He said: “Not so much. Roy didn’t speak to many players but years later I’m in that big hotel in St Pancras.

“I walk into the breakfast room and there’s just one person there: Roy. I shake his hand and he goes, ‘Sit down.’

“We had the most lovely breakfast conversation and it was just weird it took so long to do that.

“But we were driven people and he’s very different now.”
