Metra BNSF trains delayed after pedestrian fatally struck by inbound trainon July 26, 2025 at 12:31 am

A pedestrian was struck and killed Friday evening by an inbound Metra BNSF train at a Brookfield intersection near a suburban station, officials said.

Train #1276 was running express to Union Station downtown when the collision occurred at the intersection of Burlington and Prairie avenues, just west of the Brookfield station, according to Metra spokeswoman Meg Thomas-Reile.

Metra officials had no details on the victim and the Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death. Brookfield police were also unavailable for comment.

Following the collision, Metra canceled the train and temporarily halted BNSF trains, but officials reopened two tracks just before 7 p.m., allowing inbound traffic to resume, Thomas-Reile said.
