According to an arrest report, Deputy Anthony Zayas, 39, was arrested Sunday morning by his own agency on a felony battery charge and a misdemeanor battery charge.

The report states that the incident in question involved Zayas and his wife, who have children together.

According to MDSO, the couple got into an argument Saturday night inside their Tesla as they were leaving Schnebly Redland’s Winery & Brewery.

Deputies said the argument escalated when Zayas punched and slapped his wife multiple times in the face.

According to the report, the victim tried to exit the vehicle, at which time Zayas pushed her out of the car, “causing her to violently hit the ground.”

Deputies said the victim then called police for help.

According to the report, the victim was transported to Baptist Health Homestead Hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

Authorities said Zayas invoked his right to not speak with law enforcement without an attorney present.

According to the arrest report, Zayas was arrested early Sunday morning and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He has since bonded out of jail.

“I am angered and deeply disappointed by the arrest of one of my deputies for domestic violence. There is absolutely no place in this agency, or in our profession, for individuals who engage in such behavior,” Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said in a statement to Local 10 News. “Law enforcement officers must be examples of integrity, respect, and accountability — both in uniform and in their personal lives. To the victims of domestic violence, I am fully committed to standing with you and supporting you.”
