The Military Installation Development Authority, or MIDA, is the engine behind much of Wasatch County’s recent development boom near the Jordanelle Reservoir. As those projects near completion, county leaders are planning on thousands of homes and hotel rooms factoring into the region’s future.
Locals can get a peek into that future Wednesday at the Wasatch County Council meeting when MIDA liaison Richard Breitenbeker shares how much construction the Jordanelle Basin may soon see.
According to meeting materials, of roughly 6,200 units planned in and around East Village, about a quarter are already constructed.
By the time the East Village and Skyridge MIDA projects are complete, the documents state they will have added nearly 1,300 single-family homes, over 3,200 condos and townhomes, more than 1,300 hotel rooms and over 300 condos designated for nightly rentals.
That includes the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley. MIDA, which has an appointed, not elected, state board, was originally created to serve veterans and members of the military. So, the Grand Hyatt has 100 rooms set aside at a discounted rate for active-duty servicemembers and qualifying retirees.
