Nepal 2024: Politicians play musical chairs, new PM does balancing act between India and China

KP Sharma Oli become the Prime Minister of Nepal for the fourth time this year. The 2024 elections saw a shift in alliances between the regional politcal parties with Oli’s Communist Party of Nepal withdrawing their alliance with Pushpa Kamal Dahal party, instead aligning with the country’s largest party led by Sher Bahadur Deuba. The rapidly developing nations forged strong trade and utility relations with regional countries, most importantly India, China and Bangladesh. Known for its vast expanse of mountain and home to the world’s tallest mountain, Mt Everest, saw sustained mountaineering activity in 2024.
