It looks like Nicola Coughlan won’t be watching the new Harry Potter series, and she definitely won’t be appearing in it.
The Irish actress has clapped back at J.K. Rowling after the author seemed to celebrate the British Supreme Court Ruling that trans women are not legally considered women.
Following the ruling on 16 April, the author posted a picture of herself puffing on a cigar and with a drink in hand while enjoying the sunset at sea.

‘I love it when a plan comes together #SupremeCourt # WomensRights,’ she gleefully captioned the picture.
Nicola was having none of it and blasted the author in a biting comeback where she reposted an article from The Cut about J.K.’s post. The headline for the article reads: ‘This is a new low for J.K. Rowling.’
Adding her thoughts on the matter, Nicola wrote: ‘Keep your new Harry Potter lads, wouldn’t touch it with a ten-foot pole.’
She has also set about advocating on behalf of trans women, saying she is ‘completely horrified’ by the ruling.
‘To see an already marginalised community being further attacked and attacked in law is really stomach-churning and disgusting, and to see people celebrate it is more stomach-churning and disgusting.’
Nicola has also teamed up with the trans charity Not A Phase with an initial goal of £10,000 and pledged to match donations up to that point.
Currently, almost £100K has been raised. Sharing the update, Nicola wrote: ‘Nearly £100K thanks to you kind and brilliant people, so delighted for Not A Phase.’
