Sean Baker won the Original Screenplay Oscar for Anora,

Best Animated Feature then went to Sideshow/Janus Films’ Flow, in a mild upset over The Wild Robot, which had dominated won the Annie Awards last month. Winner of the Annie for Indie Feature, Flow is the first film from Latvia to win any Oscar, and it’s also up for Best Animated Feature tonight.

Best Costume Design went to Paul Tazewell for Wicked, who won for Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film at the Costume Designers Guild Awards. It’s not only his first Oscar, it’s the first for a Black man in the category, as he noted from the stage.
In the Shadow of the Cypress took the Animated Short Film prize.
The Best Picture race is as wide open as any in recent memory, with several of the nominated films scoring marquee wins at various awards shows this year. Focus Features’ Conclave took the Ensemble prize at the SAG Awards last weekend and Best Film at the BAFTAs, and Neon’s Palme d’Or champ Anora won Best Film at Indie Spirits, PGA and Critics Choice Awards and Best Director at the DGAs.
Deadline’s Awards Columnist Pete Hammond sees it being down to those two, but A24’s The Brutalist and Netflix’s Emilia Pérez scooped the respective Golden Globes for drama and comedy in January. Also in the running for Best Picture tonight are Searchlight’s A Complete Unknown, Warner Bros’ Dune: Part Two, Sony Classics’ I’m Still Here, Orion/Amazon MGM’s Nickel Boys, Mubi’s The Substance and Universal’s Wicked.
