York Regional Police said they were on patrol last Saturday around 11:30 a.m. in the area of Steeles Ave. W. and Hwy. 400 when they initiated the stop.

Cops said while speaking with the driver, they observed cannabis “readily available” and, as a result, searched the vehicle and occupants.

Police said a male passenger exited the vehicle and, while being searched, he allegedly began to resist, assaulted an officer and attempted to flee but he was located and arrested.

Authorities said with the assistance of the canine unit, a loaded firearm was also located nearby.
