Ottawa police are investigating the “suspicious death” of a 21-year-old man following the discovery of a body in the city’s east end on Wednesday.

Police said they were called to the scene in the 400 block of Meadow Park Place shortly after 8 a.m. and located the deceased man.

“The death is currently being treated as criminally suspicious,” police said in an Oct. 22 release.

Sgt. Chris O’Brien did not confirm whether the death was a homicide, but said the homicide unit was investigating.

“We’re canvassing the neighbourhood looking for witnesses, looking for video camera systems,” O’Brien said at the scene.

Homicide unit investigators were looking to speak to anyone with information or who may have captured dashcam video while driving on the Aviation Parkway between 7 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigators are also looking to speak to anyone who observed pedestrians on the Aviation Pathway in the area between Hemlock Road and Montreal Road between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

The victim’s name had not been released as of Wednesday afternoon, pending autopsy results and next-of-kin notification, police said.

An area on Meadow Park Place between Plum Tree Crescent and the end of the street remained closed off Wednesday afternoon as police continued to investigate.

“Please avoid the area, (there is) no known risk to public safety at this time,” police said.
