Peace River RCMP arrested a 41-year-old male after responding to a call of shots fired at a vehicle on July 13.

When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with the vitims and learned they knew the suspect and that he had also pointed a firearm at them.

Police were provided with information from the public that included sightings of their suspect. With help from the RCMP’s emergency response team and Western Alberta District crime reduction unit and, containment team, community response team and police dog services, they located and arrested 41-year-old Rodney Conrad Ominayak from Little Buffalo.
Ominayak was arrested based on existing warrants and further charged related to the incident reported in Peace River.
Following an investigation, Ominayak was charged with two counts of dangerous operaiton of a motor vehicle; two counts of operation of a vehicle while prohibited; two counts of flight from police; two counts of resisting a peace officer; two counts of uttering threats; pointing a firearm, either other undefined firearm-related firearm offences and mischief under $5,000.

He appeared before a justice of the peace and was remanded into custody. He’s scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River on July 28.

“I want to thank not only all the Peace River RCMP members who kept at the task until they could locate Ominayak and thus protect the community, but also the various RCMP resources that were able to assist in locating and arresting this prolific offender. Furthermore, assistance from Woodland Cree First Nation and Lubicon Lake Band was much appreciated. We will continue to do everything in our power and use all resources at hand to keep our communities safe and hold those who would do us harm accountable for their actions”.
