Thousands of commuters faced morning peak-hour delays on Friday morning after Parliament train station was evacuated and the City Loop was closed.

Trains were delayed by up to 30 minutes after an automatic fire alarm was set off underground at Parliament station.

All metropolitan lines are running directly to and from Flinders Street station.

Firefighters are responding to the alarm.

Passengers are urged to check information displays and listen for announcements as services may be altered at short notice.
