A pedestrian is dead after a vehicle collision between Hope and Merritt early Thursday morning.

Merritt RCMP says shortly after 5 a.m., emergency crews responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Highway 5 near Kane Valley Road.

Paramedics tried to save the man’s life but he died.

The driver of the vehicle involved was “unable to avoid the collision,” police allege. RCMP say the driver is co-operating with police and there is no criminality suspected.
