FRISCO, Texas — Students at a Frisco ISD elementary school were released early on Thursday after a bullet hit the building, police said.

According to the Frisco Police Department, an officer assigned to the School Resource Officer Unit responded to Hosp Elementary around 9:28 a.m. after receiving a report of a “suspicious circumstance.”

Police said that, upon arrival, the officer saw that a classroom window had been shattered by an unknown object, which police initially referred to as a “projectile.”

After further investigation, police said they were able to determine that the projectile was a bullet.

Police said no injuries were reported, although students were released early out of caution. The window was later fixed by crews at the school.

According to Frisco PD, detectives went to the school to collect and document evidence following the resource officer’s initial response. Police said that detectives were able to find the source of the bullet, and don’t believe that it striking the building was intentional.

“There is no evidence to suggest that the school was targeted, nor is there a threat to the public, and students are safe to return to campus,” Frisco PD said in a news release. “The incident is still under investigation and upon completion, the matter will be referred to the Denton County District Attorney’s Office.”

An email sent to parents from the school district around 11:15 a.m. confirmed the investigation and provided instructions for parents to pick up their children. The district said it would be feeding students and staff if necessary during the release process.

According to the school district, classes will resume as normal tomorrow.
