Queensland Police have seized a number of firearms stolen from a north Brisbane home after intercepting a vehicle on the Logan Motorway and charging three men in relation to the incident.
Police received reports of an overnight break-in on February 11 at a home undergoing renovations in Carseldine.
Offenders reportedly broke into the home while no one was in and went to “significant efforts” to force open a gun safe, which was correctly installed on the property and legally compliant.
The intruders allegedly stole several firearms and a military-style bayonet.
About 4pm the next day, police intercepted a vehicle travelling on Logan Motorway near Carole Park. Police found the three alleged offenders inside, as well as the bayonet.
Later that day, about 9pm, police found the remainder of the stolen firearms in a shipping container at a Richlands address.
The three men – a 34-year-old and two 47-year-olds, all from Ipswich – were charged with a total of eight offences, including unlawful possession of a weapon and drug possession.
The 34-year-old was remanded in custody and expected to reappear before Brisbane’s Magistrates Court on March 19.
A 47-year-old from Basin Pocket appeared before court on February 13, and the other 47-year-old was expected to reappear on February 27.

Detective Senior Sergeant Daniel Moore, from the North Brisbane Criminal Investigation Branch, said the incident highlighted the importance of correct firearm storage, and he encouraged owners to monitor their guns.
“It is important that anyone with a firearm licence is not complacent in relation to firearm security,” he said.
“The QPS is regularly conducting firearm security audits for anyone who is licensed to hold a firearm, to ensure the community is safe.
“If you see anything suspicious, report it to police immediately.”
