DANVILLE – A youthful San Ramon Valley squad ran its girls basketball winning streak in East Bay Athletic League competition to 48 in a row with a 73-25 victory over visiting Foothill on Friday night.
It is a run that started in 2020 and, barring a monumental upset by Dublin or rival Monte Vista next week, will reach an even 50 by the end of the regular season.
It was a pair of sophomores – Hania Bowes and Ella Gunderson – who led the way for SRV (20-3, 7-0). Bowes, whose sister, Sofia, plays at Cal, scored 16 points on a steady diet of drives to the rim.
Slashing guard Ella Gunderson poured in a team-high 22 points on a variety of nifty layups and a couple of threes for a team that is No. 4 in the latest Bay Area News Group rankings.
Alyssa Rudd, a transfer from crosstown rival Monte Vista, scored 10 points while also showing her versatility as a passer, rebounder and defender.
“She is a tough out, because her three-point shot is looking really good, and if you want to double-team her inside, watch her make the right pass,” SRV coach John Cristiano said of Rudd. “And she’s so much fun to be around. She’s very coachable, and works her butt off.”
In total, nine SRV players got on the scoresheet in a game that was never close.
Sophie Nguyen led Foothill (5-17, 0-7) with 12 points and made a pair of impressive off-the-dribble triples.
Up next for SRV and Cristiano is a Tuesday game at Dublin and then a Wednesday matchup at home against St. Mary’s-Stockton, which defeated the Wolves in the NorCal Open playoffs last season. – Joseph Dycus

But a 20-17 third-quarter advantage trimmed Willow Glen’s lead to 13, setting the stage for a fourth-quarter masterclass.
Santa Teresa outscored the Rams 29-13 in the final period to secure the win. Evan Guillermo led the Saints with 26 points. Alex Peoples (20), Kas Bayatoni (18) and Ayden Bobbitt (11) also scored in double figures. In the first few seconds after halftime, Manases Lara-Alvarez took a pass from Thurlow and lobbed over the keeper to score a spectacular goal. Yandel Hernandez and Lucas Selvik also scored off assists by Thurlow to pad the lead. Thurlow capped his incredible two-goal, three-assist night by scoring one more time before the final whistle.
