PSNI probe stabbing and robbery in Holylands area

The PSNI are probing separate incidents of a stabbing and an armed robbery on Saturday evening in the Holylands area of south Belfast.

The armed robbery was reported at 4.25pm in which a man entered an off-licence in the Agincourt Avenue area with a knife and threatened two staff members.

No injuries were reported but the offender made off with a sum of cash and cigarettes in the direction of Botanic Avenue.

It was reported the offender made off on foot with a sum of money and a quantity of tobacco towards the Botanic Avenue area following the incident.

“Thankfully there were no injuries, however, this was undoubtedly a traumatic incident for staff and happened on a busy Saturday afternoon,” a PSNI spokesperson said.

Later on Saturday, a man in his 50s was stabbed in the shoulder on the corner of Agincourt Avenue and the Ormeau Road.

The man was taken to hospital where his injuries are described as serious but stable.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon and remains in custody.
