Protesters had complained about a large Dunnes Stores shop in a prime Limerick city location overlooking the River Shannon being idle for 11 years. So when the local university suddenly announced it had bought the 5,500 square metre site and promised a state-of-the-art campus there, the plan was greeted gleefully.
