Her dad Roy might be ‘brilliant’ at giving advice but Caragh Keane could not be more grateful for her mum Theresa.
The second eldest of the football star’s brood of five has spoken of how it has been her mum who has helped her through her toughest moments with her health battle.
Caragh, now 29 felt the life she had envisioned for herself was over when she was diagnosed with Lupus that left her with agonising blisters and severe joint pain that was so bad she could barely get out of bed.
The entrepreneur, who has since launched SUPERKEEN, her range of gut-friendly cereals, recalls how it was her mum who helped her believe that things could get better.
‘Just through seeing how she copes wth things it definitely teaches me so much and when I was at my lowest, she really gave me faith to know, your body can heal itself.
‘You’ve gotta kind of trust the process, so she was huge in keeping me positive about things and do you know I think at times it really got the better of me as well,’ she told EVOKE.
Given her dad’s hectic schedule, it was Theresa who was more hands-on in the day-to-day running of things growing up and looking back Caragh is in awe of how well she coped.
‘I don’t know how she did it, she is like the rock and even my dad says this, you know how mum makes the house a home.
‘She is everything to everyone. I think that sums up most mums, so I’m so grateful for her.’
As to the best life lesson Theresa has taught her, she says: ‘I think she always just highlighted the need to be a kind, decent person above everything, and she is one of the kindest giving people and that’s probably the role of a mum; mums are incredible.’
‘I just think they are the most amazing people, and they just pass on so much advice and wisdom.’
