Public schools are closed in Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden and around Whatcom County, where chilly air from Canada dipped temperatures to the teens.
Whatcom Community College closed its campus, but online classes are still happening. Western Washington University’s campus is closed until 10 a.m.
Classes are delayed in Auburn, Bellevue, Enumclaw, Everett, Highline, Issaquah, Kent, Lake Washington, Mercer Island, Muckleshoot, Northshore, Renton, Riverview, Shoreline, Snoqualmie Valley, Tukwila and Vashon schools, along with many others across Western Washington.
In Pierce County, the Tacoma, Fife and Bethel school districts are opening two hours later than normal. The Puyallup district is starting an hour late.
Morning activities are also canceled around the region. School is expected to continue on a regular schedule for the rest of the day, in most cases.
Also starting late are Bellevue College, Green River College, Highline College, Pacific Lutheran University, Pierce College, Renton Technical College and the University of Washington’s Tacoma campus.
Seattle Public Schools announced around 6 a.m. Monday that classes would start at the regular time. As the forecast suggested, Seattle’s weather was less snowy and less chilly than most of the rest of Western Washington, though early risers still saw flakes in the morning.
