NEW YORK (WABC) — Our stormy pattern continues this weekend as another system will bring a mix of snow, sleet, and rain to the region.

The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings for the Lower Hudson Valley, Southern Connecticut, and northwestern interior portions of NE New Jersey. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the remainder of the area, including New York City .

Eyewitness News Chief Meteorologist Lee Goldberg says this one is trending snowier than what we received from Thursday’s storm, especially to the north.

The timing: look for the first flakes to fly in the evening on Saturday, around 8 p.m. in the city, and continue into the morning on Sunday. The immediate New York City area and areas to the north and west will see mostly snow, but some mixing will likely occur closer to and in the city. Mostly sleet and rain are likely to the south and along the coast.

Snowfall projections range from a coating to 2 inches south of New York City, 2-4 inches in the New York City metro area, across northern New Jersey and Long Island, and 4-8 inches north of the city.

New York City winter storm preparations

In preparation for the storm, New York City’s Office of Emergency Management has activated its Winter Weather Emergency Plan and issued a travel advisory for Saturday night into Sunday.

“Our city agencies are ready to answer the call and keep New Yorkers safe as we expect freezing temperatures and snowfall this weekend,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

The Department of Sanitation has issued a Snow Alert, the “higher level” snow-fighting notification, for Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.

Marcus Solis has more on Saturday’s winter storm preparations in New York City.

DSNY will begin brining both car lanes and bike lanes at midnight Saturday, and will begin salt operations at the first sign of precipitation. Thousands of DSNY staff will work on 12-hour shifts to spread salt, to affix plows to collection trucks, and to drive these plows – the heralded cavalry of any serious winter storm – when depths reach two inches.

At this time, there is no anticipated change to collection operations on Saturday. New Yorkers should continue following their regular trash, recycling, and compostable material schedule unless otherwise notified.

More than 700 salt spreaders are filled and ready to go, and the Department has approximately 700 million pounds of salt on hand, a historically high wintertime headcount, and new high-tech ways of tracking snow operations.

Alternate Side Parking Regulations will also be suspended on Saturday to allow for snow operations. Payment at parking meters will remain in effect throughout the city.

New Jersey winter storm preparations

The New Jersey Department of Transportation issued commercial vehicle travel restrictions on multiple Interstate highways beginning Saturday at 3 p.m. Restrictions do not apply to New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway or Atlantic City Expressway

Anthony Johnson has more from Ramsey.

More storms to follow

The storm train keeps on rolling right into next week with a good shot at snow on Tuesday afternoon and night and a wintry mix going to rain on Thursday.
