Tragedy struck the city of Vancouver on Saturday evening when a vehicle rammed into a crowd gathered for the Lapu Lapu Day celebrations, leaving several dead and multiple others injured.

Community Leaders React

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it a “horrific” event.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific incident at today’s Lapu Lapu Day event. Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver’s Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time,” Mayor Sim said.

New Democratic Party (NDP) MP Don Davies also shared his condolences, posting on social media:

“Just heard the tragic news of the horrendous attack at the Lapu Lapu festival. I am praying for all the victims and their families.”

Meanwhile, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, who had attended the festival earlier in the day, said he was “horrified” to hear about the tragic turn of events. Singh, currently campaigning for Canada’s federal election, called the victims “innocent people” and extended prayers to their families.
