LAS VEGAS — NFL Hall of Famer and media personality Shannon Sharpe is facing serious allegations after a woman filed a $50 million civil lawsuit accusing him of rape, intimidation, and emotional abuse during what she described as a “rocky consensual relationship.”
The lawsuit, filed Sunday in Clark County, Nevada, identifies the plaintiff as “Jane Doe” and outlines multiple accusations against the 56-year-old former football star. According to court documents, the woman claims Sharpe raped her on two occasions—in January and October of 2024—during a relationship that began in 2023 when she was 20 years old.

The complaint alleges that Sharpe subjected the plaintiff to ongoing emotional and physical abuse, including threats to kill her, non-consensual recordings of sexual encounters, and controlling behavior. The plaintiff further claims Sharpe entered her apartment building without permission and reacted violently when confronted about alleged infidelity or inappropriate behavior.
In response, Sharpe posted a statement from his attorney, Lanny J. Davis, on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. The statement dismissed the lawsuit as a “blatant and unscrupulous attempt to shake down Mr. Sharpe for millions of dollars,” asserting that the relationship was fully consensual. “It is full of lies, distortions, and misrepresentations – and it will not succeed,” the statement added.
Sharpe, a former All-Pro tight end, played 14 seasons in the NFL, winning three Super Bowls—two with the Denver Broncos and one with the Baltimore Ravens. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011 and, at the time of his retirement, held the all-time records for tight ends in receptions (815), receiving yards (10,060), and touchdowns (62), though those records have since been surpassed.
Following his retirement from professional football, Sharpe became a prominent media figure, known for his outspoken presence on social media and television. In 2023, he joined ESPN after departing FS1’s sports debate show “Undisputed.”
As of now, Sharpe has not been criminally charged, and the case remains a civil matter. No court date has been set.
