A woman and a schoolgirl have died in a house fire in Sydney’s south-west overnight.
Emergency services were called to the blaze at Heckenberg at 12.40am on Wednesday.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the home.
Police and fire crews recovered the bodies of a 46-year-old woman and a six-year-old girl inside. They have yet to be formally identified.
Eight other people – four children and four adults – were inside the house but escaped the fire. Paramedics treated them at the scene.
One girl was taken to Westmead Children’s hospital and remains in a critical condition.
A man was taken to Concord hospital in a critical condition, while a second child and a second man were taken to Liverpool hospital.
Police have established a crime scene and will prepare a report for the coroner.
