Sophie De Patoul almost misses Josh van der Flier’s Six Nations game against Wales

Matchday may come with a lot of pressure for the Irish rugby squad, but another group of people also feel the pre-game tension… the players’ wives. While the Ireland players are leaving it all on the pitch, the people who love them most are left anxiously watching from the sidelines.

Sophie De Patoul opted to stay in Ireland to watch the match from home but ran into a spot of trouble along the way.

Just when she was ready to plonk herself on the sofa, her television decided to stop working at the most inconvenient time… right before the match.

Sophie had no choice but to rush to the pub to watch her hubby help secure a win for Ireland in Cardiff, as missing a Six Nations game was definitely not an option.

She took to social media to share a video from the pub. ‘Love when the TV stops working right as the game is about to start,’ she penned alongside a laughing emoji. ‘To the pub we go!!’

Luckily, Sophie’s television was an easy fix, and so she was able to watch the end of the match from the comfort of her own home. ‘TV fixed. And breeeeaathhhee,’ she wrote.

The Dublin native has long been Josh’s number-one supporter. The couple tied the knot in a gorgeous summertime wedding at Luttrellstown Castle Resort in Castleknock, Dublin on August 11, 2022, after enjoying a year-long engagement.

Sophie made for a beautiful bride, wearing an off-the-shoulder wedding gown, matched with a long netted veil. She shared snaps of their special day, saying: ‘Got to marry my best friend.’ How sweet!

She wasn’t the only wife to support her man from across the Irish Sea on Saturday, as Andrew Porter’s wife Elaine Porter, who is pregnant with their first child stayed at home, as did James Lowe’s wife Arnica who just welcomed their second baby.
