EXCLUSIVE: Sophie Telegadis (One Stupid Thing), Mohana Krishnan (It Lives Inside), Aidan Laprete (The Wilds) and Lilah Pate (Outer Banks) are set to star alongside Sam Nivola, Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon in Driver’s Ed, Bobby Farrelly’s new comedy for AGC Studios, which enters production in North Carolina today.
Written by Thomas Moffett, Driver’s Ed is about teens who steal their school’s driver’s ed car to go on a road trip to help a high school senior (Nivola) track down his college-freshman girlfriend and win her back.
Telegadis plays Evie, an art-school-bound student who recently dropped her friend group, dyed some of hair blue and gave up on love. Krishnan plays Aparna, a hardworking and anxious high school senior who wants to go to MIT to subsequently save the world. Laprete portrays Yoshi, the resident high school dealer who buries his feelings in drugs and sarcasm. Pate will play Samantha, the charismatic college freshman girlfriend of Jeremy (Nivola), who has been pretty distant since heading off to school.

The project marks the first title in a new YA film slate from Jonas Pate (Outer Banks, Amazon’s upcoming The Runarounds) and Jennifer Pate (The Runarounds), who is producing alongside David Stone (Co-Founder, TFC Management and TFC Productions). AGC’s Stuart Ford and Aghi Koh, Lorelle Lynch, Farrelly, Scott Lambert (The Killer’s Game, Tár) and BondIt’s Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor will executive produce.
AGC Studios will finance the film, recently introduced to buyers at EFM by AGC International, with additional financing from BondIt Media Capital.
A singer-songwriter set to make her feature debut in the upcoming indie One Stupid Thing, Telegadis is repped by Myman Greenspan Fox. She recently signed as a solo artist with RCA Records and is set to unveil her first album later this year.
Krishnan previously played one of the leads in the supernatural horror It Lives Inside opposite Megan Suri. Her television credits include series regular work on the Nickelodeon series I Am Frankie and a guest role on The Summer I Turned Pretty for Amazon. She’s repped by Buchwald, Venture, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.
Best known for starring in Amazon’s The Wilds, Laprete has also appeared in TBS’s Chad and will next be seen in Hulu’s Swiped and This Too Shall Pass. He is is repped by CESD and Untitled Entertainment.
Pate is best known for recurring guest star roles on Netflix’s Outer Banks and Amazon’s The Summer I Turned Pretty. She co-starred last fall in the film Monster Summer and will next be seen starring in Amazon’s The Runarounds. She’s repped by Sweeney Entertainment.
