Special weather statement issued for Toronto with heavy rain expected Saturday

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Toronto and parts of the GTA, with heavy rain expected on Saturday.

“A Colorado low will bring heavy rain to the area,” the statement reads. “The heaviest rain is expected to fall Saturday evening and Saturday night, with locally higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.”

Environment Canada says total rainfall amounts of 25 to 50 mm are expected — enough to raise concerns about localized flooding.

“There remains some uncertainty where the highest rainfall amounts will occur,” the statement adds. “Rainfall warnings may follow as the event nears.”

The soggy Saturday will be preceded by an unseasonably warm day on Friday, when temperatures are expected to climb to 21°C.
