Turnout in the suburbs bested the city when it came to federal election advance voting.

On Thursday, Elections Canada released the detailed, riding-by-riding stats on advance polls. Nearly 7.3 million beat the April 28 rush by voting early, a new record for a general election.

In Alberta, Calgary Crowfoot was the busiest riding with 33,743 votes cast.

In the Edmonton area, the suburban ridings were all busier than the nine districts within city limits. St Albert-Sturgeon River paced the region with 30,250 advance voters, with Sherwood Park-Fort Saskatchewan close behind at 30,205 ballots cast. For both of those ridings, the votes cast represent about onequarter of their estimated populations.

A total of 26,172 voters in Parkland cast early ballots and 24,796 in Leduc-Wetaskiwin completed their democratic duties ahead of schedule.

In Edmonton, the busiest riding was Riverbend, with 23.579 advance voters.

Lakeland was the slowest riding in Alberta, with just 3,343 early voters.

Meanwhile, Elections Canada spokesperson Leanne Nyirfa said jobs are quickly being filled in four ridings that were short on staff. Elections Canada said Wednesday there were hundreds of job openings in the ridings of Lakeland, Peace River-Westlock, Fort McMurray-Cold Lake and Yellowhead.

Nyirfa said Lakeland is now fully staffed, 75 are needed in Peace-River Westlock, 10 to 15 people are required in Cold Lake. Yellowhead still needs about 25 staff for election night, but those jobs are sprinkled across a riding that includes Banff and Jasper in the west and moves all the way towards Parkland County in the east.
