Streetcar service resumes after removal of car stuck in Queens Quay tunnel

Regular streetcar service has resumed between Lower Spadina and Union Station on Queens Quay West after a vehicle drove into the Queens Quay streetcar tunnel, leading to an hours long service disruption.

The TTC posted on X at approximately noon on Tuesday that streetcar service had been suspended between the two stops on both the 509 and 510 streetcar routes due to an auto stuck on the tracks.

Toronto Police told CityNews a grey Honda Accord drove down the tunnel shortly before noon. The tunnel begins near York Street, and the vehicle managed to get as far as the platform at the Queens Quay Terminal streetcar stop.

No injuries were reported to anyone on scene.

A male suspect fled the scene on foot. Police are searching for the suspect and canvassing the area.

TTC crews used a hydraulic rail crane to extract the vehicle from the tunnel.

Service resumed approximately four hours after the incident.
