Chicago police said the woman, struck in the face and chest, was the only one to survive the shooting.

Less than a block away, two other women had been shot in the head and died.

The survivor went to at least two homes before first responders arrived.

“She kept saying, ‘police, police.’ We came outside. My mom came out first, and she was bleeding everywhere,” said neighbor Yvette McKinney. “We called the police. Saw that she was bleeding from her neck, and we just ran in the house and got her a blanket for her to put around. We’re not medical or anything, but we knew that she probably needed some help.”

It was just before 5 a.m. when neighbors said they heard gunshots, a car speeding away and then, the cries for help.

“There’s blood all over my doorstep, all over my door, all over my doorbell,” said neighbor Marcia Talbert. “I could see she was covered in blood. She didn’t have a coat on.”

The woman was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

“Hopefully, the young lady that was on our porch she will have a recovery, and she’ll survive this, but unfortunately, for those other two lives, we weren’t even aware of,” McKinney said.

All three victims are between 20 and 30 years old, according to Chicago police.

No one is in custody, and a motive is still unclear, police said.
