Tech issue grounds departing United Airlines flights nationwide​on August 7, 2025 at 12:34 am

United Airlines paused departures of flights nationwide Wednesday evening due to an unspecified technology issue at the Chicago-based carrier.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration website, affected airports alongside Chicago included Denver, Newark, Houston and San Francisco. The ground stop was issued at around 6:30 p.m., per the FAA.

In a statement emailed to the Tribune Wednesday evening, the carrier stated that it expected “additional flight delays this evening as we work through this issue.”

“Safety is our top priority,” the carrier’s statement continued, “and we’ll work with our customers to get them to their destinations.”
