A teenager has been arrested after the car he was allegedly driving smashed into another car before coming off the road and killing an elderly man on a mobility scooter.
The 76-year-old was riding his scooter on Anthony Street in the Logan suburb of Kingston about 10.40am on Saturday when a Holden Barina and a Red Ford Focus crashed.
The Ford then careered off the road and hit the elderly man, police said.
Paramedics tried to treat the man’s critical injuries, but he was declared dead at the scene.
Police said an initial investigation indicated the Ford’s 17-year-old male driver and two passengers, a male and female, allegedly tried to flee, but the driver was arrested at the scene.
The driver of the Holden Barina was not physically injured, police said.
The Forensic Crash Unit was continuing to investigate, and police urged any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV to come forward.
