Teen charged in Streeterville shooting that wounded touriston April 1, 2025 at 3:09 pm

Authorities on Monday accused a 15-year-old boy of shooting a woman who was walking back to her Streeterville hotel with her 11-year-old son while on a visit to Chicago in early March, police said.

Officers arrested the boy Monday morning in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side, according to a news release. He faces one felony charge of aggravated battery with a firearm, police said.

The woman, 46, and her son had just had pizza for dinner and were waiting for a light at the corner of North Columbus Drive and East Illinois Street around 8:10 p.m. on March 9 when they heard two gunshots, according to police. The woman told officers she saw feathers flying from her coat, felt a sharp pain in her right forearm and realized she had been shot. Her son was not harmed, according to police.

Ald. Brian Hopkins, 2nd, who represents Streeterville, hailed the police department’s work in a social media post Monday afternoon and said detectives were still working on the case of a shooting that left a 15-year-old boy with a graze wound to the leg during a large group gathering Friday night.
