AUSTIN, Texas — A new state park is in the works for Texas, and it just got one step closer to a reality.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) announced Monday that it had finalized the purchase of 1,100 acres of land in Lampasas and Burnet Counties.
The land contains limestone bluffs, natural springs and 1.5 miles of Yancey Creek. It’s also located right across the Colorado River from the Colorado Bend State Park.
Before Monday’s announcement, TPWD had also acquired 2,020 acres of land in Burnet County, bringing the combined land mass of the new state park to over 3,000 acres.
TPWD said the acquisitions were made possible by the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund, a $1 billion fund approved by voters in 2023 to help TPWD acquire and develop state parks.
“I’m excited for the addition of the second piece of this property in what will become a new 3,000-plus acre Texas State Park,” said Rodney Franklin, director of Texas State Parks. “We look forward to generations of Texans enjoying the scenic views of the unique post oak woodland and outdoor adventures awaiting on this property.“
The new land also comes alongside two other TPWD purchases: 3,703 acres at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area and the 500-acre Lake Colorado City State Park.
