FORT WORTH, Texas — A longtime Tex-Mex hotspot in Fort Worth that boasts a long list of celebrity visitors can also brag that it has the most legendary margaritas in Texas, according to Southern Living magazine.
Joe T. Garcia’s, a Tex-Mex restaurant staple near the Fort Worth Stockyards on North Commerce Street of nearly 90 years, got the title of best margaritas in Texas in Southern Living’s annual South’s Best Awards survey and awards, yet again.
Joe T. Garcia’s is known for its long lines, large patio with seating for 1,000 customers, small menu of enchiladas or fajitas for dinner and, of course, the margaritas, as the magazine acknowledged.
“Behind the colorfully tiled bar, hundreds of margaritas are rimmed with salt and sent out at lightning speed. The restaurant’s house drink has a famously potent reputation, but their other citrus-laced renditions are just as tantalizing,” Southern Living wrote. “Regulars might warn you about Joe T.’s illustrious margaritas: Ordering one doesn’t feel like quite enough, getting two is just right, and three will most likely be too many. You’ll still come back here for more.”
Joe T. Garcia’s was founded in 1935 by Joe T. Garcia and his wife, known affectionately as Mamasuez. The restaurant remains under the stewardship of their grandchildren, Lanny, Zurella, Joe, Jesse, Phillip, and Elizabeth.
The Fort Worth institution started as a tiny six-table dining room. It now covers an entire block on historic North Commerce Street. The footprint expanded over time to accommodate its word-of-mouth local popularity and ever-lengthening waiting list,” Southern Living wrote.
