A man who is known to police escaped unharmed in a targeted shooting Sunday afternoon in Sicamous.

Sicamous RCMP were called to reports of shots fired near a condo building in the 300-block of Mara Lane at about 4 p.m.

Witnesses said several suspects left the area in a white SUV before police arrived.

Investigators think the intended target was a Sicamous man, who fled the area in another vehicle.

He was unhurt, but his truck, which was hit several times by bullets, has been seized as part of the investigation.

A description of the getaway vehicle was shared with neighbouring RCMP detachments, and police in Salmon Arm tried to stop a westbound white SUV as it approached Canoe, but the driver didn’t stop.

The SUV was later found abandoned near the Trans-Canada Highway in Canoe.

Police dogs and members of the emergency response team searched the area and two suspects were arrested.

B.C. RCMP say both suspects, who are in custody, are known to police in Alberta.

“A shooting in a residential area during midday is alarming,” said Sgt. Murray MacNeil, commander of the Sicamous detachment. “However, this was an isolated, targeted incident with both suspects in police custody.”
