Tyrone GAA members raise £50,000 for sick Palestinian children

GAA members in Co Tyrone have raised more £50,000 for seriously ill Palestinian children flown to Ireland for emergency medical treatment.

The mammoth fundraising effort by Tyrone Gaels against Genocide involved holding a massive coffee morning and fundraiser last weekend.

The cash raised will now go to the Gaza Paediatric Care Initiative (GPCI), which has helped arrange the transport and treatment of children injured during Israel’s onslaught on Gaza.

Almost 50,000 people, including thousands of woman and children, have been killed since October 2023.

Many more have suffered serious physical injuries.

Israel launched the operation after around 1,200 people were killed during a Hamas-led attack inside Israeli territory last October, during which around 200 hostages were taken.

A not-for-profit organisation, which was founded in 2023, GPCI includes doctors, nurses, and health care professionals from across Ireland.

The group has also helped in the evacuation of dozens of seriously ill children who have been brought to Ireland.

Co-founder Dr Nuala Quinn, from Cookstown in Co Tyrone, received the significant donation from Tyrone Gaels against Genocide at Coalisland Na Fianna GAC clubrooms last weekend.

The campaigning doctor was also presented with another cheque from the Gaels against Genocide in Gaza representative John Hurson for £2,840 to help towards the cost of of resettling injured Palestinian children and their families in Ireland.

It has now emerged that a fundraising hurling match held last year has now raised more than £31,000 for GPCI.

During the Coalisland event Dr Quinn provided an update on the condition of the injured Palestinian children and said it was hoped more child victims and their families can be brought to Ireland in the near future.

Mr Hurson will speak at Kinturk Cultural Centre in Co Tyrone on Saturday morning for a GPCI fundraiser, while later that day Gaels against Genocide will host a Love Palestine – Gra don Phalastin – national march and rally in Belfast.
