A 24-year-old journalist was found dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district, an incident that comes just days a reporter was murdered in Chhattisgarh.
While the police have hinted at suicide, the victim Shubham Shukla’s family has alleged he was murdered following months after clashing with a BJP leader’s aides.
Shubham, who also ran a YouTube channel, was found hanging in a room used as an e-rickshaw charging point near his house.
The police have sent the body for post-mortem and are treating the incident as a case of suicide.

The incident has triggered an outrage among the journalist’s family members, with many suspecting foul play.
However, the journalist’s family has levelled murder charges against BJP councillor’s aides, whom they believe was behind his death.
As police reached the spot to collect the journalist’s body along with the forensic team, his family members confronted the police, leading to a major commotion.
Suspecting foul play, Shubham’s family claimed that he was murdered, and the crime scene was contaminated to make it appear like a suicide.
Journalist Murdered Over Legal Battle With BJP Leader’s Aides, Claims Family
Upon discovering the body, family members created a scene on the spot, accusing a BJP councillor and his aides of threatening the family over an ongoing legal case.
According to the deceased family members, Shubham was involved in an altercation at a birthday party.
During the altercation, Shubham and his younger brother were allegedly beaten by a group of people, close aides of the BJP leader.
After the fight, Shubham’s younger brother was admitted to the hospital in a critical state, requiring prolonged hospitalisation.
The family claimed that the police had taken no concrete action based on their complaint. They further said that the accused, a close aide of the BJP councillor, had been pressuring the family to withdraw the case, even issuing threats.
Claiming that the police only gave them verbal assurances, Shubham’s elder brother Suraj told India Today TV, “The councillor and his men have been threatening us to drop the case. My younger brother was hospitalised for weeks, and despite repeated complaints, no arrests were made.”
A top-ranked police official in Unnao told India Today TV that while the case is being treated as a suicide based on the initial probe, they are waiting for the post-mortem report for further clues.
This incident comes at a time when another journalist was found dead in a septic tank in Chhattisgarh on January 3, days after he had unearthed a multi-crore scam in Bastar.
