Early Thursday, Environment Canada had said there was a major thunderstorm heading toward Ottawa, potentially bringing winds of up to 90 km/h and nickel-sized hail pellets.

As of 1:40 p.m., Environment Canada meteorologists were tracking a line of severe thunderstorms from Eardley to Limerick Lake, moving southeast at 70 km/h.

However, in an update at 3:30 p.m., the warning had been lifted, although at 4:29 p.m. it remained in effect for the Gananoque-Mallorytown area. A severe thunderstorm watch continued for many Kingston-area locations.

“Take immediate cover if a thunderstorm approaches. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail,” the agency said.

Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
