Why Cat Deeley didn’t attend her mother-in-law’s funeral

Cat Deeley and her husband Patrick Kielty are each other’s rocks, but she’s also a pillar of support for their two young sons.

Patrick jets between Ireland, where he hosts the Late Late Show, and the UK, where he and his family reside, every week while Cat remains in situ as they maintain a steady routine for their boys.

On Saturday, just hours after hosting the Late Late, the Kielty family’s lives were shattered when they received word that Patrick’s beloved mum Mary had passed away.

The TV personality and his brothers John and Cahal laid Mrs Kielty to rest on Monday, with Patrick looking bereft while carrying the coffin.

He was joined by close friends and family at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Dundrum, Co Down, but noticeably absent from the funeral was his wife Cat.

MailOnline has reported that Cat remained in the UK to support her sons Milo and James, who are grieving the loss of their grandmother.

It was business as usual for the mum-of-two, who did the school run and then co-hosted This Morning alongside Ben Shephard before collecting the boys from school.

A spokesperson told the publication: ‘Cat remained at home to be there for her two young children before and after school on this very sad day.’

A death notice described Mrs Kielty as a ‘loving mother’ and ‘devoted grandmother’. It added that Mrs Kielty ‘will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her entire family circle, neighbours and friends’.

Survived by her sons Patrick, John and Cahal, Mrs Kielty was predeceased by her husband John Kielty, who was killed by the UFF in 1988.
