It’s back to blustery conditions starting Friday, the forecasters say, with winds gusting to 80 km/h and up to 20 mm of rain over the weekend.

Hydro Ottawa issued cautions Friday, warning that high winds could lead to outages.

To make matters worse, there are growing reports of conditions icing up on sidewalks and streets in the Ottawa area.

“Rapidly falling temperatures (are) resulting in surfaces becoming icy and slippery,”  Environment Canada says on social media.

“A strong cold front will move through the area today. Travel may become difficult at times. Local utility outages are possible.”

The weather office is forecasting increasing flurries beginning Friday, through the weekend.

Temperatures are expected to range from lows of -14 C to highs of about -2 C.

On the holiday front, the forecast is for clear skies and a high of -8 C on Dec. 24, with a 30- per-cent chance of flurries and a low of -11C .

Christmas Day looks like a high near freezing with 40-per-cent chance of flurries or rain showers.
