A homicide investigation is underway and a 24-year-old woman has been charged following the sudden death of a nine-year-old boy in North Queensland overnight.
Emergency services were called to a home on Charles Street in Kirwan, a suburb of Townsville, at about 7.05pm following reports that a boy was unresponsive.
Police said the boy was found dead.
The woman was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
It is believed the woman and the boy were known to each other.

She has been charged with one count of murder and is due to face Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the boy’s death.
