FORT WORTH, Texas — A woman died in the custody of the Tarrant County Jail, officials said.
A 57-year-old woman died Saturday at JPS Hospital in the custody of the Tarrant County Jail, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
The woman was arrested by the DFW Airport Police Department April 15 for theft of property between $100 and $750, the release states. She was booked into Tarrant County Jail last week and evaluated by medical staff and MHMR, which provides mental health services for youth and adults.
The woman’s medical history indicated a long history of drug use and chronic health conditions, the release states. She was receiving care from JPS Hospital while in police custody, the release states. Officials did not immediately identify the woman.
The death will be investigated and reviewed by Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office jail staff, the Office’s Criminal Investigations Division, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, an outside law enforcement agency, JPS medical staff, the Texas Attorney General’s Office and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
